A Guide for Parents

Kaleidoscope Island, an online learning platform
What to Expect

This programme is intended for preschool aged children. Anyone can enjoy the videos and lessons being taught. The website was designed to be child/user friendly. The intention is that parents will spend 15 - 20 minutes watching the programming with their children. Parents will also have access to additional materials that they can use to extend their child’s learning. As you navigate the map, you will view various videos of preschool lessons. You will also be prompted to move to the next section once you are finished watching a video. As you complete the map, the completed areas will be highlighted.

As a parent you will be required to set up an account under which you will add an individual profile for each child. Once you have registered and added your child/children, you will be able to access each child’s profile and keep track of their progress by visiting the Dashboard.

The Map will show the various lesson categories that are available. Each lesson category falls under a specific theme and lesson categories of the same color all belong to the same learning theme. Each category is made up of 4 different lessons. To select a category and view the related lessons, simply click on the Map Icon that represents that category. This will open up the page with details for that particular lesson category.

Before a lesson is started, it will show as Not Started. Once you have started a lesson for at least one child, it will show as Ongoing and once the lesson has been completed by all children, it will show as Completed.

To start a lesson, click on the lesson and select Start this Lesson. You will be prompted to select which child/children will be starting the lesson. All the images, videos and documents related to the lesson will be displayed on this page.

Once you have completed a lesson with your child, you will need to select the button to the bottom of the screen which will show the name of each child who has started the lesson.

You can use the arrows to the top of the lesson to navigate between lessons.
